TRIBUTE TO TERRY PETERSON 1943 – 2022

Terry Peterson, our dear friend and guiding partner for the last 30 years passed away on 2-13-22. Terry and his wife Diane along with their three children (Heidi, Matthew, Patrick) moved to Hayward, Wisconsin in 1977 when they bought Musky Tail Resort on Teal Lake. His first purchase of a guide license in 1978 began an incredible 44 year career. He also owned and operated Guides Choice Tackle Company from 1990 – 2008 designing several popular musky lures that included the Predator, Tek Neek, and Scooter. Terry was a pioneer of smallmouth bass fishing around Hayward in the early 90’s and a strong advocate for the protective catch and release limits we now have on many of our lakes. His induction into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame class of 2020 put him in his rightful place among legends. An intimate knowledge of the lakes, uncanny ability to catch fish, and infectious personality were trademarks that kept people coming back to fish with him year after year. Guiding always meant more to him than just fishing. It was about developing relationships and friendships. The long list of customers and friends he leaves behind all considered him family, and his impact on the fishing community cannot be measured. This video tribute includes a few of his favorite songs and pictures from a life well lived. A Yankee hat was worn by Terry every day after 9/11 to honor those we lost. He was a man of excellence and humility. Our lakes, our fishing, and our lives are better because of Terry, and he will be missed every day. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again.
