Chequamegon Bay & Hayward, Wisconsin Ice Fishing Report 4-13-14
Even though this is the winter that won’t end, reality is setting in. Opening day in northern Wisconsin is only a few weeks away, and we need to start getting prepared. That being said, I don’t have a ton of first hand information for you regarding ice and fishing conditions, but we were able to gather enough to give you a rough idea about what’s happening out there. Chequamegon Bay continues to be locked in with variable ice conditions to report. On Friday, I observed a couple of guys fishing about a half mile out from the Ashland shoreline. Josh checked ice conditions on Thursday and said their was plenty of ice but it was very slushy and sloppy. There was also a report of a snowmobile breaking through, so I can’t with good conscience recommend going out there. With another cold snap coming, it will continue to make things unpredictable and unstable. Inland lakes continue to have fishable ice and I’ve heard rumors of a strong panfish bite occurring. Recent warm temps and rains have reduced snow cover on the lakes to slush. Snowmobiles are apparently still being used on some lakes, but I’d feel better walking. If in doubt, don’t go out!
We’re excited to announce that our new office for 2014 has arrived! Thanks to the great folks at Lund Boats and Hayward Power Sports for setting us up with this brand new 2010 Pro Guide powered by a 150 hp Mercury Four Stroke with Humminbird electronices and a MinnKota iPilot trolling motor. It’s a sweet looking ride for sure, and we can’t wait to put it to use. I believe my daughter busted me this weekend sitting at the captain’s chair in my garage making motor noises as if we were cruising across the lake. It’s not the first time she’s thought her daddy is losing it, and it won’t be the last! Been a long winter folks…
As we set up and rig our new boat, it’s time to say goodbye to an old friend that’s provided us with many memories. Our 2008 YarCraft 2095 BTX is for sale with an asking price of $28,9000 or best offer. It was well used and well maintained for the 2009 – 2013 fishing seasons.
