Hayward Wisconsin Fishing Report 5-10-13
Finally!!! After a hard winter, my old friend Terry Peterson and I were able to make it out on the Chippewa Flowage today. Unlike most other large lakes in the area, it was open for business. We checked several of our usual favorites today, and most are still covered with ice. This is nuts! It was a slow start with 42 degree water temps, but the action picked up around 10:30 a.m. We caught 40 nice crappies ranging from 10 to 12 inches in 6 ft. of water on
plastics suspended 3 ft. under a slip bobber. The day started out with swirling NE and NW winds. After the wind laid down around 2 p.m., the bite was over. We did have a cool encounter late in the afternoon however. With the sun at my back, I watched a huge school of big slabs swim past the boat about 1.5 ft. under the surface. I don’t know if I have ever seen anything like it. Very cool! We kept a few fillets for a Mothers Day fish fry, and it felt great to be back at it. Don’t forget to take care of the ladies in your life this weekend. Happy Mothers Day! Stay tuned…
